KOH 10% for Ringworm ID

For use in slide preparations of specimens for the purpose of identifying fungal elements. Hair or skin scrapings are removed from around the infected area and KOH 10% is added to dissolve skin cells. The specimen is then viewed under the microscope for fungal spores. This technique identifies a fungal infection in about 40%–70% of the infections.

Bovine Blood Agar

A general purpose media for the isolation and differentiation of mastitis causing bacteria.  It can be used to presumptively identify Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species based on colony morphology and patterns of hemolysis.  Triple washed Bovine Blood Agar aids in the detection of Streptococcus agalactiae and Staphylococcus aureus.  The addition of the Beta Toxin (catalog number 2306) on Bovine Blood Agar aids in the identification of Streptococcus agalactiae by using the modified CAMP test.

Derm-Duet™ II

A rectangular 2" x 3" biplate with one section for DTM (Dermatophyte Test Media) and the other section for RSM (Rapid Sporulation Media) for the culturing of hair, skin, and nails for dermatophytes. DTM will turn red within a few days when a dermatophytic fungus is present. Dermatophytes include Trichophyton spp, Microsporon spp, and Epidermophyton spp. The RSM side will induce the organisms to produce spores (macroconidia) which can be viewed microscopically for identification.

DTM (Dermatophyte Test Medium)

DTM is a selective medium for the isolation and cultivation of pathogenic dermatophytic fungi.  Dermatophytes (Epidermophyton, Microsporum, and Trichophyton spp.) produce alkaline metabolites which will cause the phenol red indicator to change from yellow-orange to red in as little as three days.
