For the selective isolation and enumeration of yeasts and molds. Many yeasts and molds will not grow in an acidic pH environment.
This media has a neutral pH which helps grow yeast and mold, but is also conducive to the growth of bacteria. The addition of chloramphenicol helps reduce bacterial overgrowth.
